What is the Canyon CHS-3AN? A chemical-resistant spray head with a 28/400 thread and infinitely adjustable nozzle from jet stream to mist spray. No foam attachment, not for high pressure, not compatible with 28/410 bottles.
The Canyon CHS-3AN spray head is a chemical trigger from Canyon, distributed by Koch-Chemie under the name "Star", and fits any bottle with a 28/400 thread. The nozzle can be continuously adjusted between a jet stream and a fine mist spray, with an average stroke of 1.2 ml per spray. This makes it the standard attachment for 1,000 ml HDPE cylindrical bottles, which detailing professionals use to fill their own cleaners, quick detailers, and sealants.

Practical tip from Detailing1: The most common confusion concerns the thread. 28/400 and 28/410 look identical but only seal properly on the correct bottles. The Canyon CHS-3AN spray head belongs on our 1,000 ml HDPE cylindrical bottle and on any third-party bottle with a 28/400 neck size. For the original 500 and 750 ml Koch-Chemie bottles, you need the Opus spray head with a 28/410 thread. The wrong thread means: it sits crooked, doesn't seal, draws air, and sprays unevenly.
The Canyon CHS-3AN spray head works with a rotating head that has four main positions: OFF (closed), Stream (jet stream), Spray (mist), and the continuous intermediate stages. The "Stream" setting delivers a concentrated jet with a range of up to approx. 40 cm — ideal for wheel arch gaps or targeted insect pre-treatment on the hood. In "Spray" mode, the nozzle atomizes into a fine aerosol, which is evenly distributed over approx. 25–30 cm.
For continuous operation during foam washing or extensive quick detailer application, the CHS-3AN has a holding tab on the trigger. You push the trigger all the way through and slide the small plastic tab forward — the spray head then remains open without you having to hold it. This saves your wrist when working on larger vehicles and makes extensive application on station wagon roofs or SUV side panels much more relaxed.
The piston mechanism is designed as a "Ring-Lip-Piston" — this is Canyon terminology for a sealing lip that yields under pressure and seals cleanly on the return stroke. In practice, this means that even after 2,000 to 3,000 spray intervals, the stroke remains constant at 1.2 ml, provided you have not blocked the head with drying chemicals.
Clean working means setting the nozzle to OFF after each application and briefly flushing clear water through with aggressive cleaners. Otherwise, surfactants and waxes will dry in the internal channel and block the valve after a few days. Those who ignore this will replace a 4-euro spray head every three months instead of every two years — this is by far the most common reason why spray heads fail prematurely.

The CHS-3AN fits any bottle with a 28/400 thread — this is the European standard for 1,000 ml HDPE cylindrical bottles in the detailing segment. These bottles include our HDPE cylindrical bottle 28/400, the CarPro Dilute bottles, and most neutral empty bottles from detailing wholesalers.
The number "28/400" refers to two things: the neck outer diameter (28 mm) and the thread type according to the SPI standard (400 = flat thread with 6.3 turns per inch). The 28/410 thread is almost identical in diameter but has a different flank geometry. The difference is hardly visible — but measurable: a 28/410 spray head on a 28/400 bottle sits crooked and only seals on one side.
The spray head is not suitable for the original 500 ml and 750 ml bottles from Koch-Chemie — these have a 28/410 thread and come with their spray head supplied ex works. For 28/400 bottles, the Canyon CHS-3AN spray head is the suitable component, but not a replacement for high-pressure pump sprayers like an iK Multi 3 or iK Foam Pro 2. The delivery rate is sufficient for manual detailing, not for active pressure build-up or foam generation.
If you often switch between spraying overhead and normal spray direction, it's worth taking a look at the iK Trigger 360° from the same Canyon family. This also sprays overhead — relevant for wheel arch cleaning or in tight engine compartments — has the same 28/400 connection, but costs one euro more per piece and about five euros more in a five-pack.

The Canyon CHS-3AN spray head is the right choice if you dilute concentrates like Green Star, Pol Star, or Finish Spray Exterior yourself and work with 1,000 ml spray bottles. For workshops and detailers who use several bottles in parallel, it's worth buying as a spare part — a second spray head costs less than a new bottle plus head.
It is less suitable if you only buy pre-packaged spray products from Koch-Chemie, as these come with the Opus spray head already assembled. It also has no place in 5-liter canister operations — there, a pump sprayer or pressure sprayer does the work. Also not an area of application: highly acidic wheel cleaners like Koch-Chemie Rim Cleaner Acid (Rrp). The acid resistance of the CHS-3AN ends at pH values around 2.5 — anything below that attacks the seals in a few weeks.
If you're starting from scratch, go straight for the Spray Head + 1,000 ml HDPE Bottle Set. The set costs 7.49 euros compared to 7.98 euros for the individual parts — two fewer items in the shopping cart and a bottle that fits perfectly sealed ex works. For labeling your self-filled bottles, a waterproof industrial marker or a pre-printed label is essential: contents, dilution, filling date. An unlabeled spray bottle with diluted APC next to one with diluted glass cleaner is a classic detailer's mix-up — and exactly why professionals label every bottle.
The Detailing1-Insight to conclude: If you're honest, you don't replace the Canyon CHS-3AN spray head because of a defect, but because of contamination. A spray head that has been used for APC for years can never be fully converted to glass cleaner — microscopic surfactant residues in the internal channel will foam up the glass cleaner and leave streaks. The solution is a fixed assignment: one spray head per product type.
In the workshop, you label the trigger directly with a dot from a paint marker. Green for glass cleaner, Red for APC, Blue for quick detailer, Yellow for IPA wipes. Four heads, four bottles, no confusion — and each head will then last its two to three years because it runs with consistent chemistry and doesn't see different surfactants every week.
Regarding durability in numbers: With daily professional use and correct care (flushing with water after use, OFF position for storage), the Canyon CHS-3AN spray head achieves an average of 18,000 to 25,000 spray intervals. With a stroke of 1.2 ml, this corresponds to approximately 25 to 30 completely emptied 1,000 ml bottles before valve tension or the sealing lip noticeably degrades. Hobby detailers practically never replace the head due to wear, but only due to contamination or a misplaced bottle.

The CHS-3AN is a chemical-resistant spray head from the Spanish manufacturer Canyon, sold by Koch-Chemie as a "star" product. It has a 28/400 thread and a continuously adjustable nozzle from a pinpoint jet to a fine mist. It is used on 1,000 ml HDPE cylinder bottles for manual spraying of cleaners, quick detailers, sealants, and plastic care products.
Carefully turn the nozzle head clockwise or counter-clockwise. Three main positions are labeled or marked: OFF (closed), Stream (pinpoint jet), and Spray (mist). The intermediate settings are stepless, meaning you can adjust a scattered pattern between a line and a wide mist. Always turn to OFF for storage so no moisture dries in.
The difference lies in the thread. The Opus spray head has a 28/410 thread and fits the original 500 ml and 750 ml Koch-Chemie bottles that come with it ex works. The CHS-3AN has a 28/400 thread and fits 1,000 ml HDPE cylinder bottles as well as third-party empty bottles. Both heads are not interchangeable.
Suitable for neutral to weakly alkaline cleaners (pH 5–11), quick detailers, IPA wipes, and plastic care products. Not suitable for highly acidic cleaners below pH 2.5 (e.g., Koch-Chemie Wheel Cleaner Acid Rrp) and not for gasoline-based tar removers. Also not suitable for high-pressure foam generation — for that, you need a pump sprayer or a foam cannon.
The most common reason is dried chemistry in the internal channel. Surfactants, waxes, and silicates crystallize if the head is not rinsed after spraying. With aggressive cleaners, run ten sprays of clear water through the head after each use. Second reason: contamination due to product change. APC surfactants do not mix with glass cleaner and will foam it up — assign each head permanently to one product type.
With proper care (rinsing after use, OFF position, fixed product assignment), the spray head achieves 18,000 to 25,000 spray intervals in professional use — which corresponds to about 25 to 30 completely emptied 1,000 ml bottles. Hobby detailers practically never replace the head due to wear, only due to contamination or a lost bottle. As a spare part, you will more often reorder it because it's misplaced rather than defective.
Assembly begins with the bottle. Place the Canyon CHS-3AN spray head onto a 1,000 ml HDPE cylinder bottle with a 28/400 thread and tighten it hand-tight clockwise. Do not use pliers or tools — the thread is flat, if tightened too much, the sealing lip will deform and then draw air even more easily.
You adjust the nozzle by rotating the head: OFF for storage, Stream for a concentrated jet, Spray for an aerosol. All intermediate stages between Stream and Spray are infinitely adjustable — calibrate it once for your preferred spray pattern, then mark the position with a fine line on the edge of the head.
For continuous operation when foaming or applying quick detailer over a large area, press the trigger and push the plastic tab on the handle forward. The trigger remains open, and the pump operates without hand pressure. To return to normal operation, pull the tab back and the trigger clicks into its home position.
For accessories related to self-filling, take a look at our category Spray Bottles and Pressure Pump Sprayers — there you will find suitable bottles, scale variants, and high-pressure alternatives.
Notes: The Canyon CHS-3AN is not suitable for acid cleaners below pH 2.5, not for strong solvent-based tar removers, and not for high-pressure foam generation. After each use, set the nozzle to OFF, and for aggressive cleaners, briefly flush with clear water, otherwise, chemicals will crystallize in the inner channel. Store frost-free between 5 and 35 °C, upright, so that the seal is not unilaterally stressed. Use one spray head firmly per product type — contamination from product changes is by far the most common reason for diminishing spray quality.
