What sets GYEON Q²M Preserve apart from a normal trim dressing? Ordinary dressings lay a temporary oil or silicone film on the surface – it looks good, but the next wash takes it straight back off. GYEON Q²M Preserve works differently: the SiO₂ formula cross-links chemically with the plastic underneath and builds a semi-permanent protective layer. Why trim care is more than a cosmetic job

Over time UV radiation wrecks the polymer structure of unprotected exterior plastic – first it greys, then it goes porous and brittle. What starts out as an eyesore ends up as a material problem. GYEON Q²M Preserve stops that clock: the SiO₂ layer works as a UV barrier, keeps moisture out and leaves a hydrophobic surface behind at the same time. Dirt and salt cling less, cleaning gets easier, and the plastic itself stays protected long-term.

This isn’t just a show-car thing – on a daily driver too, Q²M Preserve used regularly adds noticeable life to your exterior trim. Cars that live outside all year gain the most: put a treated bumper next to an untreated one after one season and you see it straight away.

Proper prep: that’s where the result is won

The best coating in the world fails on a badly prepped surface. Loose dirt comes off in the normal wash. Baked-in residue, old wax and oily dressing films you deal with separately. The GYEON Q²M TrimCleaner is ideal here – it doesn’t attack plastic surfaces, but it cleans deep enough to leave a proper key for the coating to bite into.

Once it’s clean, let the panels dry out completely. Work above 10 degrees Celsius if you can – in the cold the SiO₂ cross-linking can stall. Bring the car up to temperature indoors or with a heat lamp if you need to. The effort pays off: on a well-prepped surface the Preserve layer holds noticeably longer.

Application: simple and forgiving

Q²M Preserve goes on thin and even with a clean foam or microfibre applicator. Don’t wipe it straight after – the layer needs 30 to 60 minutes (depending on temperature and humidity) to flash off and start curing. Only then – and only if there’s anything left – do you take the excess off with a soft microfibre towel.

On badly greyed panels you can lay a second coat once the first has fully cured (4 hours minimum). After the last coat, keep the car away from water for 4 to 6 hours if you can. With normal care and regular washing with mild shampoos, one application holds for several months.

SiO₂ vs oil: what actually lasts

The core difference to conventional trim dressings is the bonding chemistry. Oil and silicone products build a physical film that weather and mechanical contact wear away – often after just a few washes. GYEON Q²M Preserve cross-links chemically instead: the SiO₂ molecules bond with the polymer chains in the plastic. That makes the layer far more durable, much harder to wash off, and gives the trim a more natural, less plasticky look along the way.

If you want the last bit of visual polish for a show or a meet, you can spray the GYEON Q²M QuickDetailer over the cured Preserve layer as a top layer. Preserve gives you the long-term foundation – the QuickDetailer gives the short-term gloss kick.

Where it goes and what to watch out for

Q²M Preserve suits every textured and matte exterior plastic: bumpers, mirror housings, sills, mouldings, engine covers. Keep it off glass, paint and smooth high-gloss plastics (piano black) unless you’ve spot-tested first – the chemistry is dialled in for matte, textured surfaces.

After treatment we’d stick to low-contact wash methods for the months that follow. As a pre-wash before the hand wash the GYEON Q²M RestartWash does the job – it pulls stubborn contaminants off and preps the surface for the main wash without attacking the Preserve layer. Steam cleaners or strongly alkaline cleaners straight onto treated trim are best left alone for at least 4 weeks after application.
